The Trojan War!
Background:The story of the Trojan War was first recorded by the poet Homer. The story of the Trojan War was one of the many mythical stories that were used by the ancient Greeks. This story can be found in both the Iliad and the Odyssey.
How it started:The Trojan war is a mythical story that started between three goddesses who bickered over being the fairest. Aphrodite was named the fairest and started the Trojan war by making Helen the most beautiful woman in the world. She also made Paris of Troy take Helen of Sparta away from the king of Sparta: Menelaus. Menelaus called upon his brother to gather all of the armies in the land the of Greeks and set sail for Troy. Thus the Trojan War began.
Once the Greeks landed in Troy they began their 10 year war against the city.
Weapons and Strategies of War.In the 12th century B.C. the main weapons of war were the sword, the shield, the spear, and the chariot. The most common of these was the sword. The sword is a long flat sharp knife-like piece of equipment that was used to slash and fend off the enemy. The shield is a round or square piece of metal or wood used to block and deflect blows that were encountered on the battle field. The spear is a long staff-like weapon with a metal point on the end that was used to impale the enemy and fend off incoming charges. And a chariot is a horse drawn carriage which a warrior stands up in and is pulled by a horse while in battle and fights from atop it.
Boats were also use to navigate the seas and were used to travel the seas quickly. Significance of the War:The Trojan War ended with a gift to the Trojans known as the the TROJAN HORSE.
How the Trojan War Ended:The Trojan War did not stop for many years until a brilliant plan came from a man named Odysseus who was one the greek soldiers. He planned to build a great big hallow wooden horse that would be left at the gates of Troy as a "gift". The Achaean (Greek) soldiers fooled the Trojans by sailing their boats in the day, but would soon return that very night. The Trojans had a feast rejoicing that 10 years of war was over. when night had came the Greek soldiers crept out of the horse and set the city of Troy on fire killing all then men and taking Helen back.
