Artemis: goddess of the moon and hunt
History
Goddess of the moon and hunt, but is also known as the goddess of the wilderness and animals that live in the wild/forests. Artemis is the twin sister of Apollo, god of the sun.
Background
Artemis was born on the floating island of Delos. When Hera found out about Leto having kids with Zeus she was furious. She declared that Leto could not give birth on an island that was anchored or grounded to the sea floor and it could not be touched by sun light. Zeus found a floating island and blocked out the sun with a huge wave so that Leto could give birth. A day after Artemis was born she helped her mother give birth to her twin brother, Apollo. She would spend most of her free time hunting in the forest.
Powers, Attributes, Domain
Artemis is the goddess of the moon, hunt, wilderness, and child birthing. She is a virgin goddess. She could turn herself into any wild animal and she could do onto others the same thing. She was said to have brought diseases onto women and take them away as well. Artemis' brother did the same to men. She stopped aging when she became an adult. She can heal any creature that she chooses. Artemis lived on Delos, the island that she was born on, for her childhood. She then went to live with her father on Mount Olympus. She spent a majority of her free time hunting in the woods. She often went with her followers, the nymphs.
Weaknesses and Character trait
Artemis does not like to be beaten in anything.
Significant myh
When Artemis was in the middle of bathing in the woods the hunter Aktaion came across the goddess. Since he saw her naked she turned him into a stag and commanded his dogs to attack him ad tear him into shreds. Artemis punished a great amount of people. In some myths it says that if she thought any man/god was trying to take advantage of her they would either die or be turned into a forest creature.
