Outcome of the War
After Troy was sacked, the gods were angered by the sacrilegious actions that had occurred. Most of the invading force had destroyed and looted temples, which caused this problem to arise. Nestor had the best conduct, and did not take part in the looting. He and the army he commanded were the only ones to have a safe and quick travel home.
Locrian Ajax, due to his actions, endured the most wrath from the gods. Athena barrowed one of Zeus' thunderbolts and sent a storm which wrecked Locrian's ship and tore it to pieces. Him and his crew managed to land on a rock, but Poseidon destroyed it and he fell into the sea where he drowned.
Very few of the less important Aeneanians ever reached their homes. Geneus, the leader of the Aeneanians, settled near the Cinyps river in Libya. Agapenor, from Arcadia, settled in Cyprus and founded Paphos. The king of Athens, Menestheus, became the king of Crete. Elephenor died in front of Troy, but his army settled in the Epirus and founded Apollonia. Podalirius followed the instructions of the oracle at Delphi, and settled in Caria.
