Welcome Students!Introduction
The ancient Greeks had a pantheistic, or multi-god, culture. They believed that for different natural occurrences, there were different gods, or deities. In the Odyssey, Homer mentions a number of different gods and goddesses that influence and interact with characters or affect different events. To understand more about these gods and goddesses, as well as ancient Greek culture in general, you will be working in pairs to research and present one of these gods and goddesses. |
Process
You and your partner will gather specific information to be included in a webpage about your chosen deity. This page should be done professionally and utilize the provided tools to make your site as informative and professional as possible. Your page must have a minimum of three visuals (depiction of deity, symbolic figure, image of an associated myth, etc.) as well.
All information you include should also explain why the Greeks might have given such details to your deity. In other words, what were they trying to explain about natural phenomenon, culture, human nature, etc?

For Honors Students
Individually, you will create a modern mythological deity that applies to an element of today’s culture. To do this, consider the different elements/values that are predominant in our culture. This deity should encompass a very specific and relevant facet of our culture and society. You will write a 1.5-2 page report providing a name for your deity, information on his/her powers, domain, attributes, and character traits. You will also have to create a myth for this deity, either of his/her creation, or a general myth that reveals something about the area in which your deity is associated. Remember, everything must make sense in reference to your deity’s identity, so you should also include a paragraph explaining your choices for your deity in reference to American culture.
For extra credit, you may also create a quality image of your deity (5 pts)
